Dr. Roberson Restored My Way of Life
Nancy Anderson shares her pain-filled journey to a miraculous recovery –
“On December 28, 2012, I woke up with my right knee the size of a cantaloupe! The pain was excruciating and I could barely walk. I went to an orthopedic clinic in a nearby town and was scheduled for arthroscopic surgery. Post-surgery pain was unbearable, so I continued taking strong pain meds. Three weeks later the pain was too awful to live with, so I went back to the orthopedist and was diagnosed with a staph infection as a result of the previous surgery. Another ‘washout’ surgery was done, and I was hospitalized for a week with IV morphine and antibiotics. After a few weeks, I began physical therapy with limited results.
Nearly one year later on December 4, 2013, total knee replacement surgery was done. I had been in pain and on Percocet for almost a year. When I awoke from surgery I was screaming and praying to die (I am not a drama queen!). I had to have a blood transfusion and extra oxygen. More physical therapy…more Percocet…more pain. A manipulative surgery was tried, but it was a total failure. The orthopedic surgeon told me it takes a full year to recover and advised me to ‘suck it up and deal with it.’
That was the last time I ever saw or spoke to him.
Exactly one year and one day after the knee replacement surgery, I went to see Dr. Daniel Boyd in Oxford. He told me about a new surgeon in Tupelo who specialized in knee replacement and revision. After multiple surgeries with each one causing even more pain than the one before, I was reluctant to see Dr. Roberson, but at age 61 I wasn’t ready to spend the rest of my life in a drug-induced, pain-filled state.
On December 23, 2014, a cold rainy late afternoon, Dr. Roberson wiggled my knee a bit and said with a cocky grin, ‘I can fix your knee!’ I thought, ‘Yeah, right, I have heard that before.’
On January 5, 2015, the good doctor proceeded to do just that! I couldn’t believe it when I woke up and the pain I had experienced for two years was gone! I only took pain meds for a couple of days, went back to my physical therapist, and was back to work in two weeks!
People at the Wellness Center kept asking what happened to me because they had seen me limping and crying for two years, and now I was smiling and walking normally. I was so happy to tell everyone that Dr. Rowland Roberson was what happened to restore my way of life. I am thankful every day when I get out of bed and stand up on my wonderful, pain-free knee. I can walk my dogs, ride my bike, play golf, go to Pilates class, mow the yard, and do any of the other activities I enjoy.
Dr. Roberson is the absolute BEST! He is also kind and compassionate, not to mention easy on the eyes!”
Thank you, Nancy, for sharing your story, and trusting Dr. Roberson and our team to help you (finally) come back strong.
